Udyam registration is the government’s registration for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). It is done online on the official Udyam Registration portal (udyamregistration.gov.in), and there is no government fee. Registration is based on PAN and Aadhaar, and it is a lifetime registration: no renewal is required. Junaid Khan & Co. assists businesses in Bhopal with checking eligibility, filing correctly and updating details.

Important: Udyam registration is free on the government portal. Be careful of websites that look like the official portal and charge a fee for registration.

MSME classification

Enterprises are classified by both investment in plant and machinery (or equipment) and turnover. From 1 April 2025 the revised limits are:

Category Investment up to Turnover up to
Micro ₹2.5 crore ₹10 crore
Small ₹25 crore ₹100 crore
Medium ₹125 crore ₹500 crore

Exports are excluded when turnover is calculated. Investment and turnover data are taken from income tax and GST records linked to the PAN.

Who can register?

Any proprietorship, partnership firm, LLP, company, HUF, cooperative society or trust engaged in manufacturing or services, if it falls within these limits. Traders can register for the purpose of priority sector lending. Informal micro enterprises without GST or PAN can use the Udyam Assist Platform.

Information required

Registration process

  1. Aadhaar is verified by OTP on the Udyam portal.
  2. PAN is validated, and the investment and turnover data are fetched.
  3. Business details, NIC codes, the address and bank details are entered.
  4. A self-declaration is submitted and the e-certificate with the Udyam Registration Number is issued.

Benefits commonly associated with Udyam

Registered MSMEs can access various government schemes, priority sector lending, and protection against delayed payments under the MSMED Act. Specific benefits depend on each scheme’s conditions. For businesses, payments to registered micro and small suppliers should generally be made within the time limits of the MSMED Act, and income tax law links the deduction of such expenses to timely payment. Our income tax advisory work covers this.
